The exhibition is built around three acts preceded by a prologue and followed by a final:
In the shadow of Hitler: 1939–1945
In the shadow of Stalin: 1945–1956
A path to reconciliation: 1956–1974
The exhibition is set against a background that is a brief presentation of the events that form a thread of German-Polish history and a European history before, during, and after World War Two.
The axis of the story is the figure of Bolesław Kominek, who was an ordinary partof the history during the Nazi and Communist dictatorships and who became a primary actor of those histories.
